Can there love endure anything?
This movie has two time periods, present day and 1930-1940's. Present day Noah and Allie, have grown old and live in a nursing home. Noah reads to Allie from the notebook in which he tells how he and Allie fell in love. Can there love endure obstacles and trials?
The notebook is an contemporary love story set in the pre- World War II. This story is about two lovers, Allie and Noah, in a typical summer romance but then was separated by Allie's parents, for 14 years.Who thought that Noah was not the right man for Allie. Noah writes letters to Allie for a year, but Allie does not receive them because Allie's parents keeps them away from her. They soon reunite but Allie is engaged to a man named Lon. They both don't know whether their love can make it through the end.
My opinion on the movie: it is such an amazing movie, such a tragic love story. To know that love conquers all is incredible.
The problem in this movie was that Allie's parents disapprove of Noah and Allie's relationship. They thought Allie was better than a lower class citizen. Her parents had high standards even in the social status, while Noah was in the lower class. They thought Allie deserved better, which led them to be separated for 7 years. Noah goes to war, while Allie is sent to New York where she attends Sarah Lawrence College. They both have no choice but to move on from each other. Noah writes to Allie everyday for a year, but Allie does not receive. Allie meets a wealthy soldier named Lon Hammond, and later on get engaged to each other, which makes it even more complicated. Eventually, Noah comes back to Seabrook Island from war. Noah rebuilds the house, that him and Allie found, and Allie sees it in a recent newspaper article. Allie decides to visit Noah and see how he is doing, she tells Noah about her engagement with Lon.The next day, Allie and Noah go rowing on a nearby lake. When in the shore, Allie demands to know why Noah did not write to her, Noah tells her that he wrote to her everyday for a year. The next day, Allie's mother appears on Noah's doorsteps, telling Noah that Lon followed Allie to Seabrook, after her father told Lon about Noah. Allie's mother takes Allie for a drive to show that she had the same situation as Allie in the past. When they both return to Noah's place, her mother hands her the 365 letters Noah has written to Allie. Noah asks her what now and what is her decision. She says she doesn't know anymore, Noah tells her to stay with him and that its going to be tough but they can make it through together. Confused, Allie drives away. The both don’t know whether they can endure and still love each other.
There were many famous movie stars in the film, The Notebook. Ryan Gosling played as
Noah Calhoun and Rachel McAdams as Allie Hamilton. James Garner played as the elder version of Noah, named Duke. Gena Rowlands stars as Allie's elder version. Joan Allen played as Allie's mother. Ryan Gosling is one of the best actors in his generation, not only is he good-looking, he has amazing acting skills. He won four Teen Choice Awards and MTV movie award, for The Notebook. Rachel McAdams portrayed in many films such as Mean girls, The Vow, and About Time.
This movie is set in New Bern, North Carolina 1932,1946 with the young Noah and Allie, and the present day is at Creekside Extended Care Facility where Duke is telling Allie stories.. Many of the scenes set in Seabrook were filmed in the town of Mt. Pleasant, a suburb of Charleston.
A lot of music were played in the movie, such as I'll be seeing you, Alabamy Home, and Always and Always. The song 'I'll be seeing you' is played when Allie and Noah are in the middle of the road, at the middle of the night, slow dancing gracefully. It was such a sweet moment for them, and that was when they fell in love with each other. Alabamy Home is an upbeat song where Allie and Noah are surrounded by a group of people, while both of them are country dancing in the middle. The music definitely matched the movie, the movie is set in the 1940's.
I would definitely give this a five star, maybe even more if I had stars. I would strongly recommend this movie to a friend. I believe that this is the most beautiful true love story, is one of the greatest love story in its generation. This extraordinary love story which two people share is virtually outdone by the power of the love they share. This movie unlike other cliché, takes us to the beginning of true love and the ending of it. And while we know some marriages ends up in divorces, this movie shows us that two people can stay committed to one another, through life everlasting. This movie shows us that not all relationships are perfect, but two people can get through anything if they truly love each other.

I have similar feelings to what you have said about this movie. While watching the movie i wondered if Allie would ever receive the letters and decide to stay with Noah. To be able to go an entire year thinking the one you love is gone, while your parents are hiding everything from you must be very difficult. Also I loved the picture you put in the middle of your blog, it really emphasizes the question you are asking at the beginning.
ReplyDeleteI agree
DeleteTo start off I really love the caption at the top of the first picture. Even though I did love that caption this review almost gave away to much detail in the summary, then lacked detail in other places that need lots of detail. The literary and dramatic aspects are the ones that I personally would of put more detail on. The cinematic and conclusion however are almost perfectly wrote. The opinion is very clearly stated in the conclusion. Not a perfect review but decent.
ReplyDeleteI like the pictures you used. I've only seen half of this film, but I'm wanting to watch the rest; I'm sure it will be good. This review reminded me that I need to catch up of how it ends, since "The Notebook" is really one of people favorite romance films.
